About Us.

Who are we?

Barnabas started in the 1980s as a town centre congregation after the charismatic renewal had caused a local baptist church to outgrow its building.

We have met in a number of schools and halls all over the town but in 1996 were able to purchase the old TA Drill Hall in Longden Coleham which we have made into a purpose built Church Centre.

We are members of the Evangelical Alliance and adhere to their Statement of Faith.

We are part of Christ Central Churches, which is part of the global Newfrontiers movement.

What is our Vision?

We believe that God has called us to be a community Church for Shrewsbury, the Region and the Nations.

We will do this by making, shaping, encouraging and releasing disciples of Jesus.

  • We are very committed to our local community through the provision of many community initiatives, a major community venue, and through our people expressing the love of God to those around them in their workplaces and neighbourhoods all over the town and surrounding villages.

We work with other Churches in Shrewsbury in all sorts of ways including supporting Shrewsbury Street Pastors, S-YFC and Illuminate Trust.

  • We are a member of the Evangelical Alliance and are connected to the Christ Central network of Churches which itself is part of Newfrontiers. On a local level in Shropshire this means working with other Churches in Dawley, Admaston and Whitchurch as part of Christ Central Shropshire. We are also represented on the board of the Shropshire Hope initiative and Churches Together in Shropshire.

  • We have a number of strategic partnerships across the world.

We currently have links with people or projects working in Peru, Kenya, Ukraine, Zambia, Sweden and the Middle East.

BREADtrust is a charity that we fully support who carry out humanitarian aid work in Ukraine and in Zambia. Find out more about BREADtrust.

We take up offerings towards international relief work as crisis situations arise.

We also have members of the church that seek short term mission opportunities to bless others.

Getting Involved.

If you would like to join our Church you can email the office or fill in a form when you visit.  We will add you to our email list and also invite you to the next newcomers event called “Introducing Barnabas”, as well as a newcomers lunch one Sunday.

We encourage people to find their place in the Church through attending our main meetings and joining a midweek group.  We encourage people as they become more involved to join us in praying, giving financially and serving in the life of the Church.

We would love a conversation with you about the kinds of things on your heart and how we as a Church might be a place for you to grow in your gifts.
