Since Barnabas was founded in 1984 we had always been independent from any other large grouping. 
We gradually came to realise that being independent had many disadvantages and looked carefully at all the other streams of the new church to see if there was any possibility of joining one of them. 
We were quickly drawn to Newfrontiers as we felt that their vision and values were ones that we could readily subscribe to.
The leadership team of the Church gathered for an away day in 1997 and someone had a prophetic picture of a fishing rod and a net.  We were challenged whether we wanted to be like a single rod that no matter how far the line went out could only catch one or two fish at a time, or if we wanted to allow ourselves to be knit in with others to form a larger net.
We believed we would become more effective in a large and growing network of Churches rather than on our own.
